It's Official...
Today I harvested the rest of the spaghetti squash, all 27.9 lbs of it.
I have now officially grown over 100 pounds of produce. 120 lbs and 7 oz's to be exact.

I Have a Question
If you could only grow one heirloom vegetable in the category of tomatoes, cucumbers and beans which would you choose?
Other garden news...
I picked a spaghetti squash (small wonder) for dinner Monday night... mmm-mmm good.
Weighing in at 2 pound and 10 oz's this baby was sweet.

The Fall Garden
Sorry I have been away for so long. Life just gets in the way of blogging :-)
So here we are in September. I can't believe how fast this year is going. I wasn't sure if I was going to do a Fall garden but then I came to my senses. Of course I'm doing a Fall garden!
I don't get much sun in my yard this time of year. The sun hits the front half of the beds about 11:30 and will then hide behind a tree around 2:00 until 2:45. Then sun the rest of the day. So what does one grow with so little sun? You'll see....

Photos Below: Bed 1 the tomatoes are just about ready to come out. The cherry tomatoes did much better than I thought they would. I'll try this method again next year...
...though I will need to pull out the snail vine that is growing on the fence. It is trying to take over the space.

The English cucumbers were slow to get started. I only picked three before these.
The baby cucumber on ther other hand grew like crazy. I will definitely grow these again. These two grew toghether.

I planted 6 broccoli in the front of the bed where they will get the most sun for now.
I still have some basil growing in rows 2 and 3.
I also planted carrots and red and gold chard.
Snap peas in the back two rows and scallions in front of the peas in the same row.

Bed 4 is full of lettuce and spinach.
With some volunteer garlic... I think... could be an onion in there too.

The only pest problem I'm having right now is squirrels and moles. The mole(s) have found their way into the bed 3 and 4 even though we lined them with chicken wire. The squirrels are planting peanuts for me.

Photo Below: Pumpkin on a stick is ready to pick. I will cut the stems at ground level and pull all the leaves off and place them in a vase. They will look nice on the fireplace.

August Already!
Dear Readers,
So sorry I have not been posting much the past month. Lots of stuff going on at home and I have not had time to post. But no worries everything is good!
Photo Below: August 01 Harvest
My first harvest of Bush tomatoes. They were very good.
Not pictured, I also harvested a handful of pole beans and two small watermelons. One about the size of a softball and the other the size of a baseball. They were starting to get soft and I didn't want them to rot. I cut into them after dinner, the larger of the two was ripe in the center and oh so sweet. The smaller one didn't ripen. Our summer has been too cool for watermelon. I have two more on the vine. We will see how they do.

Photo Below Bed 2: The corn did not do very well. Just not enough sun in this location. I will be able to harvest about 4 or 5 ears. You can also see the two watermelons. I hope they do better than the last two.

Photo Below: Bed 3 is doing very well. The peppers are starting to ripen. The pumpkins are ready to harvest and the basil is just just waiting to be made into pesto. I planted a few cilantro seeds and they are coming up.

Photo Below: Bed 4 is looking a bit bare. I pulled the bush beans about three weeks ago and the onions last weekend. We had a little heat wave and the carrots I planted in July didn't make it. I'll have to reseed and give it another try.

Photo Below: The second wave of spaghetti squash might just ripen before the end of summer. I still can't believe how many are growing on these two vines. The vines are still putting out flowers... males but still flowers. I have been cutting back the new growth to put the energy into the fruit so they will ripen before I lose the sun in this bed.
