Sweet Potato Slips

Today I pulled the largest slip off the sweet potato. I twisted the slip until it fell off. I'll leave the other slips on the sweet potato for another week to give them some more time to grow a little longer.

Photo below: I pinched off the bottom two leafs. You can see where the roots are starting to swell on the stem.

Photo below: I planted the slip up to the first set of leafs and watered well.

Photo below: I hope to have this slip planted out into the garden by May.

Other garden news. I planted my first set of bush beans, pole beans and chard seeds in the green house today as well as some more pumpkins for the Haven House Garden. All the tomatoes and basil were potted up yesterday. Everything will be planted out in the garden in the next two weeks.

  4. Ribbit - Last year I had 80% of my summer plants in the beds by now. This year it has been much cooler so I have been holding off. The green house is coming down April 18th. By then everything will have out grown the pots they are in.

Muse - Yes they are very pretty.. but if you are not careful they will take over the garden. I will only be planting two maybe three. :0)

  6. EG _ It's my first time. I had a sweet potato in the pantry that started growing on it's own so I put it in some water and here we are.

  7. Liisa - I think I'm inspired to go stick my tater slips in the soil now... Mine aren't looking very good in a cup of water on my kitchen counter. Maybe they'd be happier in the 105 degree heat of my garden? LOL
