A Few Photos

I was all worried that I wasn't going to have any luck with my full size bell peppers.....

Photos Below: Well looks like I will have a harvest or two.

Photo Below: Red baby bell pepper

Photos Below: Bush Beans

Photo Below: Bush Tomatoes. I can't wait to see how big these get and what kind of flavor they will have.

Photo Below: Won't be long now and I'll have a hand full of cherry tomatoes.

Photo Below: I'm still on track to have corn on the 4th of July. It may only be one ear.

Photo Below: English cucumbers

Photo Below: The garlic is starting to die back. If all goes well I'll be pulling garlic in July.

Photo Below: I think I planted most of the onions too deep. One white onion is looking OK.

Photo Below: The canteloupe is starting to take off now. I hope I get melons!

Photo Below: Pumpkins are holding up well on the trellis.

Photo Below: Spaghetti Squash is starting to turn color.

Photos Below: The round zucchini is not doing very well. I have harvested two so far and they are very good, but I may pull them to free up 4 squares to plant some more carrots.

Photo Below: Look at that new big banana leaf and the pup is growing really fast too.

  1. Liisa - I planted my onions too deep, too. Oh well....I'll know better next year. Man, those pumpkins are hanging in there, ain't they? Ha.

  2. Liisa and EG, me three. What's with this planting too deep this year? Maybe because of the loose soil? I've never had problems getting my onions to grow nice round bulbs until now. Liisa, your garden produce looks so lush and healthy and delicious!

  3. I think that may have been my problem too! How deep should you be planting onions. Mine never bulb at all!

  4. Everything looks wonderful! How tall are your bush bean plants? They look nice and big... Mine are about a foot tall, but I don't recall how tall they'll get...

  5. Well I'm in really good company with my onions. :-)

EG... Yes they are! I'm very happy how well the pumpkins are doing.

Granny... Thank you! The cucumbers are so darn good. I don't think I can go back to store bought.

    Ribbit,
To answer the question "how deep do you plant onions?" My package of sets says 1 inch. Which is what I thought I did. I'm in line with Granny...the soft soil might be the issue. When watering in the sets I think they sank in a bit deeper as the soil settled. I will try them again next year but will pat down the soil a bit to ensure they stay where I planted them.

  7. Beautiful Garden! My pepper plants just made flowers! woohoo! I was wondering what kind of banana plant you have there. I just bought one a couple of weeks ago and the guy I bought it from said it was a big banana plant (yeah thanks dude). He said it was the biggest plant. I have asked gardenweb people and they say it is the kind that you dont want to eat the bananas but this guy said they were good! Anyway, it looks exactly like yours so I was just wonderin' :) thanks!

  9. Hi JenCG,

Thank You! My banana is a mid-size grower Musa ‘Rajapuri’ . It will grow to be about 6 to 8 feet and should fruit at about 5 feet.
I bought mine from a company called Logees.

  10. Hi Kelli,

Spaghetti squash flowers are pretty... but the flower in this post is nasturtium that is trying to take over the squash :-)

If you can still find them in the nursery I would go for it.

  13. I grow the onions for the green part. If I get a bulb, I'm always pleasantly surprised.

How many garlic cloves did you plant per square foot? Only four of mine survived the winter, but I've got four nice garlic bulbs. I think I'll save most of them for next year...they're obviously troopers.

  15. Cheryl,

I planted 16 garlic per square foot. Same for the onions. I think I will get a few good bulbs out of them. Some of the (like 5) onions are starting to bulb out a bit more.
